We love Captain, but he could generally be described as an energetic bundle of uncontrolled happy energy.
Captain would also pull you around if you tried to walk him on a leash, wouldnâ??t come when called, and had an annoying habit of running around the edge of the pool, barking incessantly.
My wife learned about â??The Muttmanâ? and asked him to come over to the house to work with Captain and, more importantly, work with my wife and me. Within fifteen minutes Stacy had Captain walking calmly along his side on a loose leash, using a tennis racket to block â?? not hit â?? Captain when he tried to rush forward. Captainâ??s whole demeanor changed in those fifteen minutes. He went from a wild, emotional dog to a calm, relaxed, thinking dog who actually seemed relieved to know he didnâ??t have to race from one point to another.
Within 45 minutes of additional work with Stacy, Captain was sitting and then laying calmly by Stacyâ??s side and then ours on command (and with a slight reinforcing tug downward tug on his leash) while we sat in lawn chairs and had a pleasant conversation. He wasnâ??t perfect and sometimes jumped up, but we were able to bring him back to a calm state each time.
After Stacy left, my wife and I worked at walking Captain on a loose leash and having him sit and then lay down on command. We werenâ??t half as effective as Stacy in the beginning, but after only a few days, Captain was actually walking quietly on a loose leash and sitting and laying down like I never would have believed was possible. And you could just see a whole change in his personality as he learned that he could control his own emotions.
he is a totally different dog from the one we lived with for four years of pandemonium. We canâ??t endorse Stacy and his methods strongly enough. So if you have a dog that needs training of any type, run - donâ??t walk - to the phone and call â??The Muttmanâ?, or go to one of his clinics.
